Safety
Unlike traditional wheelchairs that were never designed to be used in a prison environment, Merlexi Craft chairs are lightweight yet durable, constructed of a unique molded synthetic that cannot be fashioned into weapons.
Our revolutionary design, free of hollow cavities or tubing, enhances the ability of guards to observe and prevent attempts to smuggle contraband, unapproved messages or weapons into secure areas. The design uses anti-tamper fasteners, and resists malicious disassembly by inmates.
The Merlexi Craft tamper proof chair is a full featured wheelchair that allows inmates to be self mobile, unlike transport chairs which require staff to push them and result in unequal access for disabled inmates. The Merlexi Craft Inmate Wheelchair is a durable, folding, plastic wheelchair featuring a solid, contoured, folding seat and armrests that can be either removable/adjustable or securely fastened. The flexible solid fabric back offers optimum support without jeopardizing safety and security, and can be removed and replaced easily. The design and materials enable Merlexi Craft chairs to be used in the shower and to tolerate wet or snowy conditions. Additionally, our chairs are easy to clean and sanitize.
Every Merlexi Craft Inmate Wheelchair is built and guaranteed to last 3 years – providing significant return on investment for the responsible unit of government and for the individual facility. However, we never sacrifice safety in the name of durability. To the greatest extent possible, metal has been eliminated from the design, removing many parts that are easily abused in traditional wheelchairs.
